Not exactly a director-producer celebrity in the same rank as a Steven Spielberg or a George Lucas, Edward Bass can easily fit the bill as a director maverick extraordinaire. His film bibliography is also not as impressive but they are critically acclaimed. His line:  “It is too easy not to be in production” has given him some notoriety but is well proven by the fact that he has independently produced five major motion pictures over a 2-year period never happens in Hollywood.  No other producer in Hollywood has does the same feat.

A Golden Globe nominee, Edward Bass produced “Bobby” in 2006, an Emilio Estevez film about the assassinated senator Robert F. Kennedy. He has stirred the Hollywood nest anew with the upcoming movie about the nation’s first and most notorious lady serial murderer, the Norwegian immigrant Bella Gunness in the movie “Belle.”  The thriller movie falls in the same Sweeney Todd genre but with Oscar winning potential as best Actress for its lead role rumored to be played by Angelina Jolie.

Over the last decade, Edward Bass has produced other less than box office hits but critically admired films like the Killing Jar, As Good As Dead, While She Was Out, Come Early Morning, Slingshot, and the comedy It’s a Mad (5x) World sequel. He has worked with actor directors Kevin Spacey, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Emilio Estevez. After Bobby, the Hollywood maverick may yet see a box office hit in one of his new upcoming films. Apart from Belle, he has The Hunt, the Gridiron Heroes and Charles Ponzi in the works.
